Beating The Odds: Bringing Education To Katcha
The Katcha, prone to flash floods and historically being a safe haven for dacoits, lacks government services and civil society support. Engro Foundation is the only NGO working in the area and is running 11 schools. Engro Foundation has now teamed up with the community of Nazar Mohammed to establish a middle school with a fully equipped solar powered computer lab in the area.
The Nazar Mohammed primary school was established in 2004, and since then has seen over 300 students graduate. Eighteen months ago, the Nazar Mohammed primary school teachers sought to hold afternoon classes for those children who had graduated from class 5 to ensure further education for them.
Seeing this initiative, Engro teamed up with the community of Nazar Mohammed to establish a middle school in the area. Engro Foundation has partnered with the Department of Planning and Development, Community Development Department to construct a middle school in the Katcha area of Ghotki and has received a grant of PKR 6.4 Million from the Government of Sindh for the set up and running of the school.
Nazar Mohammed is the second middle school in Engro’s Katcha Education Program.
