Engro’s Flood Relief Efforts in Sindh and Punjab

Karachi, September 16, 2010: Engro Corporation Limited undertook the initiative to coordinate the relief and rehabilitation of thousands of people displaced by the floods in the areas of Ghotki & Sukkur in Sindh and Southern Punjab.
 

All basic necessities such as food, water, shelter, hygiene kits, utensils and medical aid are being provided to the affectees. One of the most important assets lost by a majority of the flood victims are the livestock which they depended on for livelihood. Jiwan Das who is spearheading the flood relief projects on ground said, “Engro Foundation is working with a number of partners to ensure the health and continuing productivity of these animals. The team members have undergone urgent animal aid training with Pfizer and have started work in areas of Layyah and Alipur to treat over 30,000 animals.”
 
Till date Engro has installed 300 hand pumps and distributed 6,300 Litres of water. In addition, 315,672 litres of liquid milk and 1,404,520 meals have already been disbursed amongst the affectees to meet their nutritional needs. To counter the outbreak of diseases, Engro Volunteers have provided medical aid to 3,459 people with various ailments along with distributing mini hygiene kits to 1,932 people. Engro Foundation team members have undergone urgent animal aid training with Pfizer and have started work in areas of Layyah and Alipur to treat over 30,000 animals.
 
“The problem is long from over, we have only just scraped at the surface. The teams have been working around the clock and we plan to keep doing so until the problem is behind us. It is a difficult yet a heartwarming task as the situation changes not the days but by hours.” said Jiwan Das.
 
In addition to the initial donations from Engro Corp, the employees of Engro have raised a donation of PKR 11.1 million amongst themselves for the flood victims to date and continuing the effort to raise more donations everyday.
