Engro Fertilizers launches solar powered computers

Karachi, May 12, 2014: Engro Fertilizer in a ceremony successfully inaugurated solar computer labs at Noor Lakhan school. This is the first unique project at a Katcha School where 15 computers are powered by solar power. This project was appreciated by the community who appreciated the efforts by Engro to change the mindset of the community. The area which was famous for crimes is now famous for education.
A crowd of 60 participants including 300 school students and parents attended the ceremony. Inam Ullah Khan, VP manufacturing, E-Fert while explaining the history to the audience said “Computer literacy is extremely important; we want our students to be competitive and we make sure they don’t fall back in any area of academics.”
Zaman Ali student of class 7th highlighted the picture of Katcha before Engro’s arrival where he mentioned that there was no concept of education in the area and crime was at its peak. Ahmed Ali Qureshi- DC Gothki also appreciated the efforts done for community.
Engro runs 11 primary schools in Katcha belt of Ghotki district. Katcha areas pose unique challenges which make running primary schools far more challenging than in any other geography. Challenges include access as the area does not have roads and gets inundated every year, availability of teachers as people are rarely literate, and law and order situation, as the area is safe haven for outlaws due to its inaccessibility. Katcha school program is the only education program being run in the area. It currently enrolls more than 900 students providing these students their only access to high quality education.
Katcha schools are established to provide education to people who are deprived of this blessing. With Engro’s effort, Ubaro a crime struck area is now under the shade of literacy and education
