Engro Recognized at 2nd Inclusive Business Forum for Asia
Engro Corporation Ltd was represented by Syed Saud Ahmed Pasha, Director Agri Business Engro Foods, and Favad Soomro, Director Engro Foundation, at the 2nd Inclusive Business Forum for Asia organized by the Asian Development Bank in Manilla from February 15-19, 2016.
Mr. Pasha was asked to speak in the session titled ‘Better Addressing Women Empowerment Through Inclusive Business’ moderated by Sonomi Tanaka of ADB, which focused on the challenges faced in getting women involved in the business model of Inclusive Business (IB) companies and highlighted examples of companies which empower women beyond CSR or good governance practices. Mr. Pasha presentation and talk on Integrating Women in the Value Chain was greatly appreciated and received an enthusiastic round of applause from the energized audience.
Also presented in the panel was a study ‘How Inclusive is Inclusive Business for Women?’ by business consultant Endeva which focused on investments from ADB, Inter-American Development Bank and International Finance Corporation investment portfolios. Out of the 104 inclusive business investments, only 13 explicitly target women beneficiaries – three-quarters make no mention of women at all. It was highlighted that one good example from the 13 IB investments which adapt to gender constraints and have successfully included women beneficiaries is Engro Foods that trained female dairy farmers to collect fresh milk from their communities in cooling canisters. The conference was attended by some 300 delegates representing companies which included Coca Cola, CJ Corp, Delta Minerals, EFL Global, GSK, ICICI Lombard, Nestle, SEED, Visa and many more.
