Engro Foundation is partnering with the Community Development Program (CDP), under the P&D Department, Government of Sindh to establish the first girls’ middle school in the Indus Riverine Area in District Ghotki. The Indus Riverine area colloquially known as the Katcha is settlement of people right next to the Indus River in Southern Sindh. The area is marginalized with no electricity, no government services like health, education etc. Furthermore due to thick forestation, the area is a safe haven for many dakus and proclaimed offenders. In fact Engro Foundation’s 12 schools are the only source of education in Katcha area.

Engro Foundation has a mandate of educating the marginalized and is thus looking to develop middle and secondary school for girls of this area. The middle school when established, will educate girls coming from 4 Engro primary schools in the area. Under this partnership, 31 teachers from 12 Engro schools will also receive residential training on critical pedagogy and community development through the Instituted of Development Studies and Practices (IDSP). For this purpose, CDP is providing a grant of PKR 12. Million and Engro will be contributing PKR 6.5 Million.
